Reactive Dyes

Articles For Pro Traders

Reactive dyes are different from all the other textile dye categories because of the way they attach to fibers. Reactive dyes are the only dyes that form one or more covalent bond with the fiber. Therefore, these dyes have excellent fastness properties and are the right choice in applications that have repetitive washings and rubbings. Reactive dyes are easily dissolved in water and absorbed on cellulosic (cotton, wool, viscose, etc.) fibers. The molecule of a reactive dye is composed of a core, which is responsible for emitting the color, and one or more active side groups, which are responsible for forming a covalent bond to the fiber. Based on the number and chemical structure of the side groups the method of applying the dye is different. Reactive dyes can be used in temperatures from 40 to 90°C through bath dyeing, pad dyeing, and printing. Reactive dyes are divided into the following groups considering the method that is suitable for their application:

1. Low temperature dyes (30-40°C)
2. Medium temperature dyes (50-60°C)
3. High temperature dyes (75-90°C)
4. Print dyes
5. Vinyl Sulphone dyes (suitable for printing and medium temperature dyeing)
